THREADS IN INSTAGRAM

After much speculation, Meta has finally launched its Long-rumoured Twitter rival on Wednesday, 5th July 2023 and here’s what to know about.

What is Threads in Instagram?

Threads is a Meta-built platform where you can have real-time public conversations and discussions with people.

The newly launched platform is closely connected with Instagram, letting people follow the same people you follow on your Instagram Account.

You can discuss everything – from the topics you care about to sharing your ideas and opinions, and connect directly with your favourite creators and others who love your content.

How to use Instagram Threads?

You need to download the Threads App from the Apple or Android store and can then log in using your existing Instagram Account. So, you need an Instagram account to access Instagram Threads Feature.

Threads and Instagram, both interconnected, come with a set of benefits for existing Instagram users. If you are verified on Instagram, your verification will automatically be carried forward to the connected Threads Account, and you can even cross post & share on both platforms.

Threads are currently compatible with the ActivityPub protocol and soon will have a number of new features to help you users discover threads and creators they’re interested in, including improved recommendations in the feed and a more potent search function that might make it easier to follow trends and topics in real-time.

How is Threads similar to or different from Twitter?

From the layout to the experience and communications, Meta’s new Threads App resembles a lot like Twitter! And that is what has taken the Internet by storm!

With Twitter CEO Elon Musk bringing so many restrictions, changes, and controversies around Twitter, the widely popular social media platform has been said to be going through a rough patch.

Many social media users and influencers have, thus, seen Threads by Instagram as a Twitter Replacement and are already ready to roll out the platforms.

With a few small exceptions, Threads functions similarly to Twitter. Short postings can be up to 500 characters long and contain photographs, links, and videos up to five minutes long. Your feed will be algorithmic, so it will be made up of a combination of the users you follow and suggested stuff, just like Instagram is right now. You have the choice on Twitter to switch between an algorithmic and a chronological feed of only the people you follow.

But it also differs from Twitter in some ways. Currently, the Meta-built App does not support Twitter’s direct messaging feature. If new users want certain features, Instagram indicated it might add them later. But overall, the apps appear and feel very similar.

Can Threads beat Twitter?

With 2 Million Sign Ups In 2 Hours, and 5 Million In 4 Hours, many believe that Treatds will take over Twitter. Since all Instagram users base has ready access to the new Chat platform, it already has the advantage of acquiring the existing Instagram users. In fact, Meta just needs one-fourth of its Instagram users to switch to Threads to catch up to that of Twitter Accounts.

When asked if Threads can overtake Twitter in popularity, Zuckerberg responded, “I think there should be a public text-based conversation app with one billion+ people on it. It’ll take some time. Twitter has had the chance to do this but hasn’t succeeded. I think we will.”

With a vision to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas, and discussing what’s on your mind, people’s opinions are sharply divided if Threads can become The Friendly Community and beat Twitter.
